Are you creating more than you are monetizing?

Hi there, it’s Peter Winick. I’m the founder and CEO at Thought Leadership Leverage.
Here’s the idea that I’d like to share with you today, and that’s this: lots of people can create amazing content, awesome thought leadership. It’s well researched, it’s well written, it’s good, it’s high quality.
However, there’s only a small subset of those people that can effectively monetize their thought leadership and intellectual property.
Well, why is this? Well, there’s lots of reasons why that is so, but if you look at the essence of it, it comes down to where the energy is spent and where the effort is spent.
And if all you’re doing is creating the next thing and more stuff and additional content, and that’s what you’re putting out there—but not putting the effort into how you can effectively monetize that stuff—you’re going to get the outcomes that you’ve always gotten.
If you don’t have a good strategy in place, if you don’t have the right tools in place, if you don’t have the right offerings, products, solutions, etc., you can create till the cows come home.
So, take a look at what you’re doing and ask yourself if you’re putting the right amount of effort into the monetization side—and maybe can afford to put a little bit less effort into the creation side moving forward.
