Are you creating too much and not executing enough?

Transcript

Hi there, it’s Peter Winick. I’m the founder and CEO at Thought Leadership Leverage, and here’s the idea that I’d like to share with you today.

As you know, if you’re an author, a thought leader, uh, a keynote speaker, what have you, and that’s this: create less, execute more.

Whoa, that might not be the word you wanted to hear because you really thrive on the creation, on the coming up with new ideas, on the playing with the models and the methods and the frameworks and new derivatives of your work. But if you’re not focused on the execution of the plan, of the strategy, you can’t unleash the power of your ideas. They’re not going to have the impact in the world, in the organizations that you’re embedded in, etc., that you know that they can have, right?

So execution and creation are sort of two competing forces here. And from my experience, far too many thought leaders spend far too much time in the creation side of the house and not enough on the execution side of the house.

Now let me put a caveat here. If you’re not an execution person, if you’re not a detail person, if you’re not a strategy person, if you’re allergic to marketing and sales, that’s okay, right? Then create the systems and the processes and the organization that allows you to create, but make sure someone or someones own the execution responsibility.

So anyway, the question I would have for you to sort of end this with is, thinking back over the last 90 days, how much time have you spent in the creation mode, and how much time have you spent in the execution mode? And is that ratio serving you, your objectives, your goals, your strategy, your business as well as it could be or should be?

Love to hear your thoughts.
