Best practices can become worst practices!

Hey there! It’s Peter Winick. I’m the Founder and CEO of Thought Leadership Leverage. And today, I wanted to share with you a thought based on some conversations I’ve had recently. And the gist of it is this. When you take the best practices in one domain, and move it into another domain, they don’t work. That might seem glaringly obvious and simple.

But here’s what I see fairly often. In fact, frequently, is that people take some of the best practices for content marketing, in meaning I need to put work out there that applies to everybody. I need to have mass appeal. I need to constantly get stuff out on a day to day basis to state my case about my product, service, or offering. And they use those best practices in the world of thought leadership. And quite frankly, it just doesn’t work.

Let me explain why. Thought leadership is about being targeted, about being focused, about creating really amazing content in thought leadership that is received as if it was designed just for that specific individual with those issues, those struggles. And you are uniquely qualified to solve that problem.

So again, I would ask you to think if you are using any best practices from one domain and putting it into another, such as content marketing to thought leadership, to question what you’re doing and possibly change your tactics and modify your strategy.

Thanks so much.
