Are you creating enough value for yourself?

Transcript

Hi there, it’s Peter Winick. I’m the Founder and CEO at Thought Leadership Leverage. And here’s the idea that I’d like to share with you today—and that’s this:

Far too often, I hear from thought leaders, academics, consultants—the folks that I work with—that wow, they did this project for a client and look at the value they created for that client. Look at the zillions of dollars they saved the client or enabled them to enter a new market, whatever the case is. They created really massive value.

And I look at that and say, that’s amazing. That’s what we all want to do as consultants and advisers and partners and such.

But what is the value you created for yourself along that way, during the process? And if it’s pennies on the dollar, something’s wrong in that equation, right? It’s not an equitable partnership. You’re either underpricing or not positioning the engagement in such a way to extract the value that is equitable, that is fair to you.

So my question is, you know, do you spend enough time thinking about creating value for yourself as well as creating the most value that you can for your clients?

Love to hear your thoughts.
