Is your work interesting or is it impactful?

Transcript

Hi! It’s Peter Winick. I’m the Founder and CEO at Thought Leadership Leverage. And here’s my thought today. And I as always would love to hear your thoughts and reactions and responses. And that’s this: Is your work interesting or is it impactful? Let me unpack that a bit.

So, interesting. A lot of thought leaders, authors, academics, consulting firms, etc. put things out into the universe, put things out in front of their clients that are interesting if not downright fascinating. And that’s great. Right. That gets people to lean in. You talk about your models, you talk about your methods, you talk about the research that you’ve done, the things that you’ve learned. And they go, oh yeah that’s kind of interesting. Interesting doesn’t pay the bills quite frankly.

Impactful pays the bills. What do I mean by that? I mean you need to be able to make the bridge for your clients, or prospects, or whatever that you’re talking to do. That takes your work from being interesting to a place where they see the impact that it could have to them as individuals, to their teams, and their organizations. So, that your models, your methods, your research, etc. come to life in a way that yields them outcomes and results that they’re looking for. That they’re willing to invest their time in. That they’re willing to invest their money in.

So anyway, would love to hear your thoughts on where you are. Interesting is great. Impactful is a better place to be. Love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.
