Are you doing things that only you would hire you to do?

Hey! It’s Peter Winick. I’m the Founder and CEO at Thought Leadership Leverage. And here’s what I wanted to share with you today. And this is the result of a couple of conversations that I’ve had over the last few months kind of in the background and then they came together for me. So, I wanted to share them with you and get your thoughts.

And here’s the thought. If there are things that you’re doing that only you would hire you to do, why are you doing them? I see too many amazingly talented people, thought leaders, academics, authors, speakers, etc. doing things that A. they’re not good at; B. they don’t enjoy; and C. there’s lots of other people that can do it for a fraction of the value of their time. Things like video editing, things like podcast editing, things like social media management. You know mundane simple, easy things that, you know, maybe in the beginning, we’re curious. We want to understand how they work, etc.

But to me the litmus test is if no one else would hire you to do that task, and that means hire you at a rate that makes sense, hire you at a rate that you’d be proud of, then why are you doing it? Take that time and reinvest it into other things. Take that time and reinvest it into the things that only you do well.

Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts and reactions. Thanks so much.
