Are you reminding your clients where you are taking them?

Transcript

Hi there, it’s Peter Winick. I’m the founder and CEO at Thought Leadership Leverage. And here’s the idea that I’d like to share with you today — and that’s this.

When you’re talking to prospects, when you’re interfacing and interacting with your clients, oftentimes what I find thought leaders have a tendency to do is get wrapped up in the minutiae, in the jargon, in the details. And I think that’s important in certain contexts.

But I think ultimately what you need to do — keep your eye on the prize — is making sure the client understands where they are and where you’re trying to take them. What the current state is and what is going to be better, what is going to be different, what is going to be more powerful for them relative to the objectives they’re trying to achieve, relative to the interactions and the work that you’re doing.

So elevate that conversation — not every time, but on a consistent basis — to remind them: “Hey, we’re here. We’re stuck. We’re not retaining talent. We’re not growing as fast as we should.”

And: “As a result of doing all these things I’m asking you to do — and that I’m working with you on — which are hard and different and difficult, here’s where we’re going to get to. And let’s not forget why we’re doing what we’re doing.”

Love to hear your thoughts.
