Four Types of Clients We Work With
Hi. This is Peter Winick. I’m the founder and CEO of Thought Leadership Leverage. People often ask what types of people we work with. Well, there are four basic types of clients that we work with and while these types are not an exact science it should give you a good sense of the caliber and variety of thought leaders we are proud to call our clients.
#1 – The author / speaker.
These folks have written a book or 10 and spend most of their time out on the circuit speaking professionally. They may speak thirty fifty even a hundred times a year. They tend to call out in February from the Admirals Club at O’Hare in the midst of some sort of a nervous breakdown. That may be because they’ve missed their anniversary dinner for the third year in a row, an important event for one of their children, or some other obligation as a result of spending so much time on the road. While they love what they do and they get paid quite well for what they do. Their current model is totally unscalable, physically exhausting, and not sustainable. They are looking for innovative ways to scale and leverage their content.
#2 – We do a lot of work with elite academics.
These are academics that are well established and they’re at such well-known universities as Yale, Dartmouth, Wharton, London Business School and others. They’ve established a name for themselves in their respective fields and our world renowned. Then something happens. It’s as if a bright spotlight has been shown on them. They are frozen and not exactly sure what to do. This could be as a result of a book that takes off quickly, a TED talk, an article on HBR that’s getting a lot of buzz, or something else that causes a lot of positive attention to be thrown their way in a very short period of time. They need help figuring out how to take advantage of the opportunities that are in front of them and to effectively satisfy the demand of the enterprise market that is seeking their solutions.
#3 – We do a lot of work with CXOs and founders of various organizations.
They tend to fall into two categories. The first are CEOs of Fortune 1000 organizations that will be leaving the c-suite sometime in the next 8 to 18
months. They tend to be a bit older but not quite ready to totally retire. What they would like to do in this next phase of their life is to spend some of their time being a thought leader in an that they are passionate about and have deep insight that they would like to share. The other type of CXO or founder that we work with are in high growth high visibility companies that are on the IPO path or have recently gone public. The content or thought leadership that these folks have developed is closely connected to their current business. By exploring ways to get their thought leadership out more broadly it no doubt helps their business achieve its objectives.
#4 – The fourth category that we work with our boutique consultancies of all types from around the globe.
What we have found is consultancies by their very nature create a high volume of high-quality content over the course of their many client engagements. However, unless the content is being utilized in a billable client engagement, it is an asset that is sitting idle. Oftentimes, These consultancies are seeking to explore ways to monetize content that they have developed over the years and have it benefit a greater number of folks. So if you fit into one or more of these categories, we can help you. If you’d like to schedule an introductory call, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected].
